Kanye West to Run for President in 2020

At the 2015 VMAs, Kanye West has announced he’ll be running for President of the United States in 2020. Fortunately Kanye West managed to keep his ego in check, and only announced that he decided to run for President in 2020 in his VMA speech. The former, more arrogant, Kanye simply would’ve commanded that he will be President in 2020. Likely he used his rant and the date to spruik his superior vision. Foresight that is. Kanye West doesn’t look back. With his time in the White House almost up, maybe Obama will go on to launch a similarly successful rap and hip hop music career? It’ll be like looking in the mirror, and all part of the Kanye logic. Some may be wondering what political party Kanye will side with: Democrats or Republican? Clearly they have it all wrong. Kanye West sides with no party. He is the party. ...

10 Reasons Why Taylor Swift Got Royalties Out Of Apple

Like any good peddler of a potentially addictive substance, Apple wants people hooked on the products it’s pushing. And the number one rule of hustling is to create your own demand. In Apple’s case, it’s giving people three months of free samples, make that a three month free trial of the Apple Music streaming service. Normally this would cost $9.99 per month, but: “Come on. Try it. It’s free. Try it. Just once…” Problem was, since it’s giving this away, it didn’t want to pay the artists or record labels for streaming their music either. Naturally a hustler can’t annoy its own supplier. Enter Taylor Swift’s blog entry To Apple, Love Taylor and problem solved. Apple will now be forking out the cash to the owners of the music during the free trial period. Taylor Swift, is there anything she can’t do? Before such a question warrants a reply, here’s ...

Nancy Cartwright won’t be at Supernova 2015

“I didn’t do it.” Well, actually you did do it, Bart Simpson. But at least it’s better than saying “woozle wuzzle”. Unfortunately due to work commitments, like voicing Bart Simpson on that little show called The Simpsons, Nancy Cartwright has had to cancel her appearance this year at the Australian Supernova Pop Culture Expo in Sydney (19-21 June) and in Perth (27-28 June). As the Supernova website broke the news, citing an email from Nancy Cartwright in which she wrote: “Sadly, you should know I’ve received the below message from The Simpsons Producers and am unable to travel to Australia. As you may have heard we have been playing catch up on the show.” It’s likely the “playing catch up on the show” may well be a reference to the Harry Shearer incident a short while ago. Following Nancy Cartwright’s inability to attend, Supanova will be honouring refunds of tickets, ...

Morocco Throws Book at J-Lo’s Booty

Talk of spicy Moroccan lamb is fine. Spicing up Jennifer Lopez’s rump in Morocco is another matter entirely. Especially if it’s shaking on public television. J-Lo’s performance on Friday 29 May before a live audience of 160,000 at the Mawazine Festival Rhythms Of The World, in Rabat, sparked no shortage of commentary from Morocco’s conservative local media. Including calls of her performance being a “a breach of public decency” noting that she was “scantily” dressed and managed to strike more than a few “suggestive poses”. This may not have been such an issue, nor out of the norm for the Booty singer, but for the fact that the concert was also broadcast on the 2M TV network. There are unconfirmed reports of an unnamed educational group filing a lawsuit against the singer and the promoter, claiming that Jennifer Lopez’s performance “disturbed public order and tarnished women’s honour and respect”. How ...

Depp’s Dogs Wag Their Tails

News of the impending doom for Johnny Depp’s dogs, Pistol and Boo, travelled like wildfire, with little room to invoke the right of parlay. The Hollwood movie star, currently in Queensland, Australia, filming the fifth instalment in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise Dead Men Tell No Tales, brought his two dogs, Pistol and Boo, with him. This occurred illegally, as they were flown in by private jet, ignoring and circumventing Australia’s quarantine laws, as the dogs were not declared to Customs. Had the dogs been declared to Customs, the whole thing would’ve largely been a non-issue. As it turns out, this is not the first quarantine issue related to filming the movie, with Jack the Monkey from the series also subjected to 30 days in quarantine in accordance with Australia’s biosecurity laws. That Depp’s dogs potentially faced being euthanased, sent both social media and politicians into a flurry of ...

Justin Bieber Content Blocker in the Making

Following in the news that an application is in the making to block the Kardashians from the internet for users, the KardBlock makers also have the following to say on their official website: “We are also working on customization to block content related to Justin Bieber.” Offering the ability to directly filter out internet content based upon the dislike of a particular celebrity could be pretty big news. Coupled with the point James Shamsi makes: That there is real news out there, however, much of it gets subordinated in favour of more trivial things regarding celebrities. Which is not without truth and merit, even if people are likely to always be interested in celebrities. Yet the future ability to filter out internet content related to particular celebrities could be of real benefit. For example, parents may not have a problem with their young children liking the fictional character Hannah Montana, ...

Miley, Miley, Miley

Tongue Not in Cheek Miley’s Video Music Awards (VMA) performance seems to have poked and pointed more tongues into talking about a Cyrus than the days when there was an achy breaky heart on the scene. Not that Miley’s performance was completely inconsistent, after all she did have blonde hair.  So maybe she was just playing the character of Hannah Montana, you know, all grown up. It was just that she may have blurred the lines between family friendly entertainment and perhaps showing what a wholesome upbringing on Disney can do for you. A link to the ‘show’ is provided, but the video isn’t directly embedded here.  Because things are kept tasteful on uthinki;  however questionably so.  (Or videos of that much twerking simply take up a lot of bandwidth!) Cyrus’ moves have sparked all sorts of comments, not in the least because she did more twerking than an anthology of ...

Ben Affleck is Batman, But-

Daily Planet and Wayne Enterprises, of a Sort When the news broke that Ben Affleck would be the next Batman, the next one to don the cowl of the Dark Knight, it was met with mixed and divisive reactions. It seems that everything burns. Rebooting so soon after the Nolan trilogy, maybe it is not about the message and all about the money? Baffle Me This Gothamites have weighed in, knowing that if the new Batman vs. Superman vs. Batman (it should be two out of those three, in some order) movie set to be released in 2015, is no good, the punishment must be more severe than mere flame wars on Twitter. “Holy three letter acronyms Batman!” They may be some of the nicer things said. Of course the conspiracy theorists out there – of which there may be a few on the internet – will have noticed the ...

Matt Smith Quits Doctor Who

The Eleventh Doctor to Leave Matt Smith, the actor behind the current Doctor Who (and the Eleventh Doctor) recently announced that he will be quitting the show. Series 7 ended with a cliff-hanger and the caption: INTRODUCING JOHN HURT AS THE DOCTOR Will John Hurt be the Twelfth Doctor? Probably not, but that’s travelling ahead in time anyway. Given that the show began running back in 1963 on the BBC, it has needed a means to shift between the actors playing Doctor Who. However, this is accepted because as a Time Lord, Doctor Who has the ability to regenerate when near death.  Each time he is effectively reborn, there is the retention of the past personalities, the memories and the shared consciousness, yet the new incarnation will have its own characteristics as well. Whether it is that Time Lords can only regenerate the suggested 12 times remains to be seen. ...

Breast Cancer Awareness – The Angelina Effect

Enter Angelina Since first stepping into the spotlight, Angelina Jolie was been many things to many people. From Hollywood wild child, with her various oddities such as an interest in knives to wearing a vial of blood of her then husband Billy Bob Thornton (a much older man) in a necklace.  Perhaps channelling some of these quirks or even art imitating life, she became a celebrated actress.  Including winning three Golden Globes; and winning an Oscar in 1999 for her portrayal of the sociopathic Lisa Rowe in Girl, Interrupted.  Plus the Tomb Raider movies, although perhaps far from the most respected acting she has done, playing as Lara Croft served to place her truly in the public eye. Seen as incredibly beautiful, she has consistently ranked in FHM’s list of the 100 Sexiest Women each year since 2000 to now; peaking at third place in the year 2005.  Similarly Esquire magazine ...
