Driver Crashes Car into Building, Thinking he could “Travel Through Time”

“Great Scott!” A man drove into office buildings thinking he could apparently “travel through time”. Ignoring the fact that he was driving a Dodge Challenger, and not a DeLorean, there’s no word on whether the car was fitted with a working flux capacitor. While Ford did briefly offer a flux capacitor, sort of, probabilities here on the Dodge favour the answer is firmly no. Especially since he crashed into the wall. Unless he was playing chicken with it, possibly because the wall called him “chicken”. The crash occurred Monday 21 December 2015, but time and news of purported time travel can move in strangely nonlinear ways. Particularly around the internet, and distorted by the holiday season. The driver crashed into the office of Advanced Tax Services, in Pensacola, Florida, USA. General manager Emanuel Mores spoke about the incident to the local news: “I was mad, then eventually I was happy ...

Bicycle Riders Over 18 Require Photo ID by Law in NSW in 2016

As of 1 March 2016 adult bicycle riders in the state of New South Wales, Australia, will be required by law to carry photo identification with them. It will not be a requirement that minors, those under the age of 18 years, will also have to carry photo ID with them if riding a bike. For bicyclists’ not carrying photo identification, it’s anticipated that warnings will be in place initially for one year, with $106 fines expected to be imposed from 1 March 2017. Within the NSW legislation of the Road Rules 2014 (which are subject to be changed), the following definition within the Dictionary is given: “bicycle means a vehicle with 2 or more wheels that is built to be propelled by human power through a belt, chain or gears (whether or not it has an auxiliary motor)”. Which rules out arguing the legality of an adult not carrying ...

Force Choke and Gag: George Lucas Back Peddles over Disney “White Slavers” Star Wars Comment

On a planet near, nearby… With Star Wars: The Force Awakens breaking box office records, including cracking the $1 billion in box office receipts faster than any other movie, it’s more than likely Disney is pleased with its $4 billion acquisition of Lucasfilm. Naturally through all this, eyes and ears have turned to the creator, or father, of Star Wars, George Lucas. And from the man himself have come an interesting array of analogies and a veritable galaxy metaphors. Talks of divorce and breakups, kids and marriage, fandom, and even white slavers. Not all of them are intergalactic though. Speaking to the Washington Post, Lucas said of parting ways with the Star Wars franchise: “I call it like a divorce. “There is no such thing as working over someone’s shoulder,” he says. “You’re either the dictator or you’re not. And to do that would never work, so I said ‘I’m ...

Ban Saggy Pants, Mini-Skirts and Short Shorts in Public suggests Dadeville City Council

In the interests of equality and respect, the Dadeville City Council in Alabama, USA, is proposing to ban wearing mini-skirts and short shorts in public because it has already proposed a ban on wearing saggy trousers in public. Let it be known the equality movement continues in America. Dubbed the “Saggy Pants Ordinance” Dadeville City Council first had the concept of banning men wearing their trousers below their waistlines brought up back in August. Councillor Frank Goodman proposed the idea at a council meeting to prevent what he views as “slacking” and to promote “respect” in the community. As the Alex City Outlook reports, Goodman said: “We have people walking down the street with their hand in front of them holding up their pants. Then they have the nerve to walk into a place of business and ask for a job. If you come to my house you are going ...

It’s Pronounced “Voldemor” not “Voldemort” Says J.K. Rowling

For oh-so-many years, and almost equally many movies, the pronunciation of Lord Voldemort has all been wrong. The “t” is soft or silent, and rather French actually. It’s not a hard “t” at all. It’s pronounced “Voldemor”. Making it sound more like “He Who Canno Be Named” instead. Or Christopher Lambert by Francophiles with their crediting him as Christophe Lambert, and pronouncing the actor’s surname more like “Lom-ber”. Scary. And it comes direct from the Harry Potter series author, J.K. Rowling herself. Replaying via Twitter to Michael Lucero’s piece of trivia: “One piece of Harry Potter I always forget to mention: the ‘t’ is silent in Voldemort, according to JK Rowling.” … but I’m pretty sure I’m the only person who pronounces it that way. https://t.co/HxhJ5XY5HP — J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) September 9, 2015 There it is. Obscure. Pointless. And probably a Horcrux. Kind of like pronouncing Ralph Fiennes’ first name ...

Road Rouse: Ronda Rousey Set for Road House Reboot

In what may be proof that 1980s is still the go-to decade for Hollywood mining reboot movie gold, Ronda Rousey is tipped to star in the remake of Road House (1989). The original film starred the late Patrick Swayze, whose character James Dalton was brought in as a cooler to clean up a rough bar in Missouri, cleaning up the town in the process. Although not necessary a huge movie at the time, it has gone on to enjoy somewhat of a cult status. Such is the power of the decade that was the eighties. As for Ronda Rousey, an MMA fighter, filling Mr Swayze’s shoes, she was in Furious 7. (Much like fellow MMA fighter, Gina Carano, was in Fast & Furious 6.) Ronda Rousey has been doing a bit of fan lobbying on social media to land the superhero movie acting role of Captain Marvel. She is also ...

Why do Koalas have Unique Fingerprints?

In a twist of nature, it turns out koalas have fingerprints. Not just generic fingerprints shared on the pads across the species, but each koala has a unique set of fingerprints. While they’re more like prints on the pads of koalas’ paws, each individual koala has its own identifiable fingerprints. Koala fingerprints are also eerily human-like. Possessing the same characteristic arches, loops and whorls, which human fingerprints have. Making them subject to dermatoglyphics: the scientific study of fingerprints. (Although dermatoglyphics as pertaining to the study of human characteristics and intelligences purportedly contained in and revealed by fingerprint patterns is more scientifically questionable, depending on application.) Human fingerprints are unique. No two humans’ fingerprints are the same, even amongst identical (monozygotic) twins. Meaning human fingerprints are not entirely the product of inherited genetics and DNA. Koala fingerprints, are somewhat of a scientific mystery. Few mammals possess fingerprints, and of those that ...

Russian Creature: Earthly Mysterious Skull or Alien?

Apparently leading the way in the discovery of mysterious creatures this year, Russia has done it again. First there was the mysterious sea creature resembling a “furry dolphin”. Now there is what’s described as a “mysterious skull” and is elsewhere already being dubbed an “alien”. The bizarre looking corpse was found by Russian locals who initially through it was a mutated chicken embryo. While photos make it appear large, it’s actually small enough to fit into a human hand. On Sunday 30 September, in Sosnovy Bor, Russia, two residents found the creature near the banks of River Kovashi. Some are turning to the nearness of Sosnovy Bor to the Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant as an explanation for the oddly deformed creature’s corpse. It may also be the foetus of a creature, such as a bear, which was frozen previously in the permafrost. Which may account for its preservation, partial remains ...
