Deadpooling

Coining a phrase isn’t quite the same as phrasing a coin, but Deadpooling looks to be a thing now. The character’s self-aware nature allows Deadpool to appear almost anywhere. In everything. And be prone to be popping up over anything. Not unlike male teenagers Meaning that breaking the fourth wall is no longer limited to DIY mistakes or an Interstellar plot twist. Thanks to Zamurai Productions, the latest to get the Deadpool treatment, or a Deadpooling is a: Tale as old as internet Song as old as kismet Deadpool and the Beast For those waiting for the last rose petal to drop, it’s more of a Gaston musical number really and involves Disney’s live action rendition of Beauty and the Beast (2017) getting the Deadpool Musical parody treatment. Plus nothing says “live action” quite like Deadpool. There’s an irony there. Probably. Maybe. Only if you still need to change into ...

How Long Does the Average Man Last in Bed?

In a brief, but upright study, Pfizer (the makers of Viagra) aimed to answer an age-old question: How long does sex last with the average male? Ask any male, chances are each and every one of them will tell you they’re above average (in size too), and that’s not just those living at Lake Wobegon. Females may give a more honest assessment. Including both, the study of 500 couples, which lasted four weeks (more than any male in it by a long shot) between the sheets in bed, found some rather telling results about how long males lasted during sex before climaxing: 22 percent lasted only 0 to 3 minutes. 54 percent lasted between 4 and 11 minutes. 24 percent lasted over 12 minutes. In the rare cases of outliers, some males managed to last over 21 minutes during lovemaking. Although they may be masters of Tantric sex. The median ...

Spanish Matador Victor Barrio Dies in Bullfight

Professional matador, 29-year-old Victor Barrio, was killed in a bullfight in Teruel, in Spain. The event was filmed on live television, as part of the festival Feria del Ángel. The bull, known as Maños and weighing some 529 kilograms, flipped Barrio over with its horns, before goring him further as it drove him into the ground. Festival participants came to the matador’s aid, though Victor Barrio’s injuries were severe and he later died in hospital with doctors unable to save him. A warning that the following video contains graphic images. Bullfighting in Spain is considered part of the Spanish heritage and culture; there are also those who are strongly opposed to bullfighting. Barrio’s death is said to be the first death of a matador in a bullfight in Spain this century, and the first human death in the bullring death since 1987. The deaths of the bulls, however, are virtually ...

King Kong Supersized for Skull Island and the Monster Battles Ahead?

“Kong. Kong. Kong.” It’s a big chant, for a big ape. And that particular ape is about to get a whole lot bigger. Speaking at an extended preview, director Jordan Vogt-Roberts said: “Not 10 foot or 30 foot, but a 100-foot ape.” He’s referring to King Kong in his forthcoming movie Kong: Skull Island, set for a March 2017 release. Starring Tom Hiddleston (possibly with a “mewling quim” speech moment or other strong language equivalent), Brie Larson, and Samuel L. Jackson. Plus the titular ape himself, King Kong, complete with his supersizing to 100 feet (30 metres) tall. The massive size increase is likely laying the groundwork to give some semblance of plausibility to King Kong actually being a worthy contender against Godzilla. Who is increasingly utterly gigantic (since skyscrapers keep getting taller), has thermonuclear powers, and isn’t afraid of swimming in the water. Because Warner Bros. intends to merge ...

Preservation Ale could be the World’s Oldest Beer

Resurrected from the depths and brought back to life, it has all the makings of a horror movie plot. But this is science, not fiction, and the subject is beer and yeast to be more specific. The story of what might be the world’s oldest beer originally set sail in the year 1796. Taking a fateful turn back in 1797, on 9 February, when en route from Calcutta to Port Jackson, one of the first trading ships to the new colony, the Sydney Cove, ran aground on Preservation Island in Bass Straight. Down with the beached and waterlogged ship went some cargo, beer amongst it. Head forward to 1990, when the shipwreck was salvaged by marine archaeologist Mike Nash for the purposes of historic shipwreck preservation. The maritime relics of yesteryear recovered from the Sydney Cove (Australia’s oldest merchant shipwreck) continue to be displayed at the Queen Victoria Museum and ...

Deadpool Delivers Australia Day Message

In an attempt at the fourth wall breaking characteristic of the Deadpool character, actor Ryan Reynolds has delivered a special Australia Day message to promote the release of the forthcoming Deadpool movie. “Seriously, I’d fit right in with your proud nation with its shady criminal past, and it’s predilection for black-out drinking and unrelenting condescension towards New Zealand,” says Deadpool. However, Deadpool has one problem, and that’s Australia giving the world X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009). Because it’s Deadpool, be warned, there is profanity in the video below: Whether the Deadpool (2016) movie actually delivers, fans will find out when the film premieres 11 February. Who knows, it could be a second career low for the antihero… While it may be intended as a reboot, there has already been the equivalent of Barakapool minus the mouth, and 20th Century Fox Films also gave the world the Fantastic Four (2015) film, a ...

Do you want your Lemmy neat or on the rocks?

It could be the question to surpass even cheesy pick-up lines in bars, clubs, and pubs, if Mötorhead fans have their way. The death of Mötorhead frontman, founder and bassist, Lemmy Kilmister has left many music fans reeling. Since not everyone can hope to master the art of the friendly mutton chops, the next best thing apparently, was for fans to turn to online petitions. One Mötorhead fan is petitioning on Change, with the following: A Jack Daniels and Coke will forever be associated with Ian Fraser “Lemmy” Kilmister, the iconic founder of Motorhead. To celebrate and remember one of Rock and Roll’s true legends, I petition everyone to henceforth and hereafter refer to the combination of Jack Daniels Whiskey and Coca-Cola as a “Lemmy”. Let it be so. With the campaign to rename a Jack and Coke a Lemmy having gathered over 30,000 signatures thus far, it just might ...

Vegemite and the Spread of Homemade Alcohol in Dry Communities?

Vegemite, it’s the great Australian spread. With a taste which ranges from being described as enjoyable, to being compared to dirty and worn pureed work boots. Depending on who is asked. And as it turns out, the dark and salty, and ultimately yeasty spread that is Vegemite, is also reportedly being used to make alcohol in parts of Australia. Which is of particular concern to the 19 dry communities in Queensland and in various other areas in Australia, where the sale of alcohol is prohibited or restricted. Statistics related to alcohol consumption in Australia, including the impact of alcohol consumption related to health are readily available. Alcohol has been linked as a contributing factor in cases of domestic violence, child abuse and anti-social behaviour, including within Aboriginal communities. However, it is reported that proportionally fewer Aboriginals drink alcohol than do other Australians, and media reports of alcohol abuse in Indigenous ...

Alcohol, Pizza and Pie – No Change but Rye

Islington, London, a man was almost charged ₤223,000 for a six-pack of craft beer. What exactly was this beer crafted from, may be a reasonable question. Rumours swell that it was brewed in the fires of Mount Doom itself. Using yeast secretly collected from the very baguette which stopped the Large Hadron Collider. With malts and hops of such pedigree that saffron is thrown on the ground before them as they are loaded on an unsinkable Bismarck guarded by tactical and nuclear penguins. All to form the ultimate craft beer. Or, the man was simply overcharged by accident. The decimal point had been moved a few places. Possibly because the period was being taxed. Fortunately or otherwise, he didn’t actually have the ₤223,000 in his bank account to fund the declined purchase. “I wasn’t really paying attention but I glanced down and saw the first two numbers. “They looked fine ...

Struggle Street: When to Intervene in a Documentary?

Struggle Street, the documentary which initially aired on Australia’s SBS has had its fair share of controversy. Before the show even made it to air, commentary about the ads for the documentary were rife. Namely about how it depicted those people in it and the suburb of Mount Druitt in a negative light. Some claimed it was “poverty porn” a voyeuristic thrill of watching those in a worse position than themselves. A peek over to the wrong side of the tracks to check in on how the Joneses weren’t keeping up. Garbage trucks blockaded the SBS Sydney offices in protest over the show. Then it aired, and it appeared it wasn’t quite as one-sided and biased as those outraged by the initial ads suspected. It elicited sympathy. A look into something different, seen through different eyes. That the cycle of poverty can be complex, and there’s no easy answers to ...
